How to Secure a Knife Block on Countertop

It’s subtle—but a sliding or wobbly knife block is a low-key hazard. Whether you're pulling a blade out or just brushing against it while prepping, you don’t want your knife storage moving around on the counter.

Here’s how to lock it down, plus a few smarter alternatives if your current setup isn’t working.

1. Start with surface check
Make sure your counter is clean and dry. Crumbs, oil, and water can all cause your knife block to shift. Wipe the area where your block sits with a damp cloth and dry it fully before securing anything.

2. Add non-slip pads underneath
You can grab self-adhesive rubber feet or silicone bumpers from any hardware store. Stick them to the bottom corners of the block for instant grip. This works especially well on stone or tile counters.

If you want an all-in-one solution, line the area under your knife block with a thin non-slip drawer liner cut to size.

3. Use a weighted or modular block
Some blocks are just too lightweight for daily use. If your current one slides even after adding grip pads, it might be time to upgrade.

The Kaiju Modular Knife Block is built with more heft and a stable footprint. It’s designed to house a full set without tipping or sliding—even when you’re in full prep mode. Plus, the modular slots help with better balance and spacing.

4. Anchor it near a wall or backsplash
If space allows, tuck the back of your block against a wall or the corner of your counter. This adds extra support and helps prevent tipping when pulling out heavier blades like a cleaver or scimitar.

5. Go vertical or concealed (if you need space)
If your countertop is small or crowded, you might be better off skipping the block altogether. Using individual knife sheaths and storing them in a drawer with a non-slip liner is safer and more space-efficient.

Knives like the Nomad Chef Knife or Grizzly 7" Fillet Knife both have matching sheaths designed to protect the edge—and your fingers—during drawer storage.

Bonus: Magnetic strips (only if mounted correctly)
Wall-mounted strips can work well for small kitchens, but they need to be screwed into studs and mounted high enough to be out of reach of kids. Avoid sticking them to tile with adhesive unless you’re okay with the occasional crash.

Knife blocks are only useful if they’re stable and safe. A few non-slip pads, some smart positioning, or an upgrade to something like the Kaiju Modular Block can go a long way toward making your kitchen setup feel more locked-in and less chaotic.

Got knives without a proper home? Fixing your storage might actually make you reach for them more often.
